Tax Relief on Donations

Donations from individuals attract tax relief at their highest rate. (So a donation worth £1,000 to us may effectively only cost you £600.) Donations from companies attract tax relief at the corporate rate.

Tax relief also applies to gifts of shares. For example, if you have taxable earnings of £50,000 and were to give quoted shares with a market value of £1,000, you would only pay income tax (at the higher rate) on £49,000 of your earnings, reducing your tax liability by £400. If the shares included a capital gain of let's say, £500, then a possible CGT liability of £200 could be avoided. If so, your £1,000 gift of shares would effectively only cost you £400.
